Manufacturer-approved soft wash for a roof that looks like new.
Lifts black streaks, moss, and lichen from asphalt shingles and metal roofs — without compromising the warranty.
The black streaks running down asphalt shingles aren't dirt — they're a living algae called Gloeocapsa magma. Pressure washing won't kill it (and will void your shingle warranty). The right answer, recommended by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, is a low-pressure soft wash that kills the algae at the source. It's the technique we use on every roof we touch.
Asphalt shingle roofs (the black streaks). Metal roofs (oxidation, mildew, algae). Tile roofs (with care). Cedar shake (specialty). Roofs in shade or under heavy tree cover that re-grow algae quickly.
High pressure on asphalt shingles strips the granule layer, which is what protects the shingle from UV damage. Manufacturers consider it grounds to void the warranty. We don't do it — there's a better way.
The streaks lighten over the wash and continue to fade for 2–4 weeks as the algae fully dies and rinses away in the rain. After that, the roof looks new — and stays clean for 18–24 months.
